The Backcountry Horsemen were invited to hold a Dutch oven demonstration in front of the Crescent Work and Outdoor store on Saturday, March 14th. It was a beautiful, sunny day and there were 14 Mid Valley members present, plus some family members and guests. We had 7 cooks slaving away over hot coals: Jerrie Thomas, Vicki Morales, Debra Mason, Sandy and Barbara Newsome, Nancy Gross and Jon Caudill. JeriAnn King, Ellen Monk and Caitlin Golding also stepped in and did a little cooking. Others in attendance were: Michael King, Carl and Julie Perry, Roy Collins, Bob Thomas, Nicole Estrada and her daughter Emily, Lynn and Caitlin Golding and myself.
The food was plentiful and delicious. Some of the dishes served were: pizza style monkey bread, Italian sausage and pasta soup, apple cake, chile beans, tamale pie, crescent rolls, cinnamon rolls and pot roast. The wonderful aromas drew a good crowd of shoppers and everyone enjoyed tasting the different dishes and asking questions about Backcountry Horsemen and Dutch oven cooking.
All in all it was a great day for everyone.
